The firm’s directors are Mr. Bill Fox and Mr. Graeme Fox (Father and Son).

Specialist Mechanical Services (SMS) has been trading since 2003 having previously been the air conditioning and refrigeration branch of a larger company. SMS was created to carry out installations and service and maintenance work on air conditioning and refrigeration equipment.

SMS now operates in a number of areas:

« Air Conditioning installation & maintenance;
« Refrigeration installation & maintenance;
« Ventilation installation & maintenance;
« Heat Recovery systems installation & maintenance;
« Specialist Applications of any combination of the above;
« Design of Renewable Energy Technology solutions

SMS is a member of the Building & Engineering Services Association (www.b-es.org), formerly known as the HVCA, and the Association’s Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Group (RACG). As a member of this trade association the firm is subject to independent audit and inspection by BM Trada to confirm the qualifications and training of all personnel. Graeme Fox is a former Chairman of the RACG and is a Fellow of the Institute of Refrigeration. As an active member of the HVCA Graeme also serves on the European Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Contractors’ Association (AREA – www.area-eur.be) based in Brussels. Mr Fox is currently President of AREA having been elected to the Board in 2008. He has worked as an expert adviser at UK and European Government level and works closely with other industry bodies in interpreting and advising on regulations and directives.

SMS is the only member of the voluntary REFCOM Elite scheme (Best practice in Refrigerant Management) in the Tayside area and was the first contractor company in our field in Scotland in achieving full certificate status under the European F Gas Regulation’s  (EC842/2006) requirement for mandatory registration of companies handling refrigerants.

REFCOM Elite demonstrates a higher commitment to environmental awareness and responsibility by keeping a full audit trail of all refrigerant use.
